Victoria Street, Flemington

About the project

The Victoria Street housing site was redeveloped to replace older style housing with 359 new homes that are bright, modern and energy efficient.

There are also new quality outdoor spaces with gardens, a community pavilion and pedestrian and cycling pathways to complement the local area.

The new 1, 2, 3 and 4 bedroom homes are a mix of 240 social and 119 affordable homes bringing a 21% uplift in social housing at the site.

Delivered through a first-of-its kind Ground Lease Model, Homes Victoria is leasing the land to not-for-profit project partner Building Communities to manage and maintain for the next 40 years, enabling all land to remain in public ownership.

Projects like this are helping to tackle housing affordability by delivering more secure rental housing options in the local area.

Welcoming new and relocating renters

Residents are now settling into their new homes, including returning renters who lived at the site prior to its redevelopment.

These homes are also providing relocation opportunities for renters living at the soon to be redeveloped towers nearby at 12 Holland Court and 120 Racecourse Road, Flemington.

About the high-rise redevelopment and relocation process

Victoria’s Big Housing Build is taking its next big step and retiring and redeveloping 44 older social housing High-rise sites in Melbourne to give renters access to better homes and unlock the delivery of thousands more homes for Victorians where they’re needed.

Homes Victoria's High-rise redevelopment is a large urban renewal initiative which will replace 44 ageing social housing towers across Melbourne with modern, accessible, and energy-efficient homes.

As part of this redevelopment, current renters will have dedicated support to relocate from their home and remain close by. Renters may also elect to move to a different neighbourhood in Victoria.

Renters will be given the opportunity to return to their new neighbourhood following redevelopment based on their ongoing eligibility, needs and suitability of new homes. Renters can also choose to stay in their new home if that suits them better, at the time.

We’re committed to offering relocation opportunities that keep communities together and our relocation team will be there to support you every step of the way. We will find you a new home that meets your individual and household needs, arrange your move, pay relocation costs, arrange for mail redirection and connection to any new services.

For renters at 12 Holland Court and 120 Racecourse Road, Flemington, now is the time to finalise your relocation housing application so the relocations team can help you find a home that suits your needs.

These new homes at Victoria Street will be available for relocating renters to inspect. If you would like a guided tour to learn more about their features and their suitability email relocationsteam@homes.vic.gov.au or phone 1800 716 866.

You can also contact the relocations team at relocationsteam@homes.vic.gov.au  for help with your relocation housing application.
