Tarakan Street, Heidelberg West

Project update

Homes Victoria’s Tarakan Street, Heidelberg West housing redevelopment project is now complete, providing more Victorians with a safe and secure place to call home.

The housing redevelopment project has replaced 60 older style homes that were not fit for purpose with 130 new homes, including 67 social homes and 63 affordable homes. The redevelopment also includes new open green spaces, including a terrace garden, barbeque facilities and a children’s play space for residents to enjoy.

Located just 10km north-east of Melbourne's city centre, the Tarakan Street site is ideally positioned close to community services, local schools, educational institutions and shopping precincts.

Uniting is the community housing provider that will manage and maintain the social housing at the Tarakan Street site over a 30-year period.

The tenancy manager for the affordable homes is the Victorian Affordable Rentals consortium (VARc). VARc includes a range of specialised community housing and private sector tenancy and property managers who work together to maintain and manage the new affordable homes at Tarakan Street.
