Support for people with a disability
National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)
The NDIS is the new way of providing support for Australians with disability as well as their families and carers. The NDIS offers a number of supports for participants who wish to remain in their homes and live independently.
Supports must be articulated in the participant's plan, which is developed by an NDIS planner.
For more information, see Housing and the NDIS on the NDIS website.
How do I join the NDIS?
People who wish to obtain assistance under the NDIS should firstly see Am I eligible page on the NDIS website.
To apply to join the NDIS, see How to apply on the NDIS website.
Specialist Disability Accommodation
Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) is housing designed for people with extreme functional impairment or very high support needs.
The Department of Families, Fairness and Housing is a registered National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) SDA provider that owns many SDA homes across Victoria. They provide safe and secure SDA homes which maximise resident choice, independence and participation in the community.
