Community, kitchens and a cat: Meet one of Bangs Street, Prahran’s first renters

Renters are settling in and getting to know their neighbours at the recently completed Bangs Street housing redevelopment.

M-R was one of the first people to move into the revamped Prahran housing site, where we recently delivered 434 new social and market rental homes.

She moved in with her cat Boodi back in February and tells us their favorite features of their new home are the quality, space and view from the balcony.

“This place is amazing, absolutely amazing in terms of its build quality,” M said. 

“I love my European laundry, I love my kitchen and basically it’s given me lots of space.”

A published author and avid knitter, M said she has already made friends with some of her neighbours and is looking forward to getting to know the rest.

This is M-R’s first time in social housing, as she had initially been looking to apply for one of the market rental homes at Bangs Street which is an integrated housing development.

Throughout the application process, the team at Community Housing Limited who are managing tenancies at the site, noticed she was on the Victorian Housing Register and met the criteria for housing support.

“This is the first time I’ve ever known a group of corporations and government departments could all come together with such success,” M said.

When asked what a home means to her, M-R said:

“It’s a place that you look forward to coming back to.”
